I think you are missing the context of what I am saying. someone else had proposed that if album artist was blank, artist could be used to fill it. if that were to happen, then server would not mark it as a comp, b/c album artist values would be present. (depending on how it was implemented) as to your other comments, very few people use "Band" and those that do, at least in id3, typically use the frame to mean album artist. I am not suggesting that people be able to browse by band, as that seems totally unnecessary, however being able to browse by artists, or album artists, or both together, is absolutely normal and is the way winamp, foobar, iTunes, and many other apps allow users to browse. only server creates its own list and doesn't allow the user to easily pick what they want at any given moment.
