I wonder if you could offer a quick summary Michael of the current state of
this, and what changes are in progress?
It's all a bit in progress - bug fixing included :-).
As Erland suggested I decided to throw changes at you to get feedback.
The discussion has been confusing and sometimes misleading. Having a
common base to discuss hopefully helps us to understand what we really want.
"Album Artists" is showing too many artists.
That was a bug I introduced yesterday. Sorry about that.
Album Artists > Various Artists still shows all compilation albums, not only albums by artist "Various
Artist" (e.g. I found one album by "Various", listed under the artist "Various" but also under
"Various Artists" as it is tagged as a compilation).
Nothing has changed there (unless I've introduced a bug).
This thread is about a separate Album Artists browse mode. I always said
too many topics were being discussed here. VA handling is one of them.
I don't think this browse method should have any logic to look for compilations
now, only artists + album artists.
What is "this browse mode"?
The Additional Browse Modes settings page has the pre-configured modes that can be
enabled/disabled, but I can't see Artists, All Artists, Album Artists or Albums in this
list, irrespective of the "Browse Artists" choice on the My Music setting page.
Should they be?
None except the optional items probably should be there... I removed
albums/artist browse modes as a.) artist browse modes have become a bit
complicated and b.) I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to remove them.
At some point whilst changing options, all three Composer, Conductor and
Band/Orchestra checkboxes became ticked, and then later all were unticked. I
usually only have Composer and Band ticked.
That must have been some left-over from previous experiments.
BTW: are you back on 7.9? Please no longer use the extended-browse-mode
branch.
Having switched back to single Artist browse method, this list is also showing
too many artists.
Most likely a side-effect of aforementioned checkboxes for additional roles?
