I second the recommendation of trying the java version of Kingsburg. I've logged quite a few games with that. It does play well face to face and people can pick it up easily. However, if you have one or two AP gamers it can drag. I will note that the first time I brought this out at a meetup one player was offering to trade for my copy and another stated he would be picking up a copy. I kept my copy and I believe the second person might have bought another copy to give as a gift. Kingsburg won't work for all groups but it is quite good. It is possible to block people and be mean. Luck can really help or hurt. The light fantasy theme can draw people like me but can also turn others away. The board itself looks awesome. When I bring this out in large group settings people naturally come over to at least check it out or to ask if they can join the game.
BSG is a good game though I've only played it once. I've only watched the new TV show a few times and I still enjoyed the game and the theme. I'm sure those that follow the series get even more out of the game but it is still quite enjoyable with only a little knowledge of the theme. Fans in the group can add flavor like asking if someone is a "fracking toaster." The group I played with had a lot of table talk for everyone's turn and that made the game drag a little but it was also enjoyable. I will say that the Cylon(s) can more easily negatively impact the situation than in Shadows Over Camelot, which I've plalyed a lot. However, it is also a little easier to detect the Cylon because each character can only draw certain colors of cards on their turn. Thus, if there were a lot of negative cards played for a particular event it could be possible to narrow down a couple of players that could possibly be the Cylon. Additionally, there is a bit of a catch up mechanism mid game. That being said from what I've seen it seems a little bit easier for the Cylons to win. I base that more on what I've been hearing from gamers in my group that have played it more often. As I say I've only played it once. The WoW miniatures game seems good. I played the intro game against my brother a couple of days ago and we enjoyed it. It took 40 minutes but I was teaching as we went along and I pointed out better moves from time to time. I really like the time mechanism in the game. Unfortunately, it seems to me that the starter minis favor the Alliance a bit so I would have the more experienced player play the Horde. I hope some of my rambling helps.
