I find that if I ride towards the center of the lane & use my L arm bent to signal going R, cars don't know & actually give me more clearance than less. I think some believe I may be attempting to go L instead of R by signaling w/my L arm. However, I agree w/Dar that you cannot rely on signals but rather check (i.e. rear scanning) before making any movement in traffic. -Aaron

Really though, I feel that we're lucky if our bodies and bikes are seen by drivers at all, much less if they see and understand what our our flailing arms mean. So, while it's nice to use conventions, I'm happy enough if they're just alerted that I'm going to do *something* and drive a bit more cautiously past me. So if I'm on their right, it's probably better to wave the hand they're most likely to see. India, you should get blinky bracelets for turn signals, that way you've covered.
