These are all really great points. I do believe in formality when it comes to traffic flow and I was actually thinking of hand signals more in term of communication with other bikes. As long as there is a system that everyone understands and people actually used signals when appropriate I would be happy. I never thought of hand signals as optional, so it was so surprising (and irritating) to me that most bicyclists don't use them here. kris

So if I'm on their right, it's probably better to wave the hand they're most likely to see. India, you should get blinky bracelets for turn signals, that way you've covered.
