If you are talking also about FreeTTS: is it possible to replace it with Espeak? Espeak is already on LFS LiveCD, but is compiled without the PortAudio library there, and thus cannot speak by itself (but still provides a library that is used by Speech Dispatcher on the LiveCD in order to produce speech). The latest upstream version doesn't need a "dont-crash" patch that you can currently find in the LiveCD repository. By replacing FreeTTS with espeak, we'll gain non-English speech synthesis, and lose one Java dependency. Also, Espeak is easier on the ears. -- Alexander E.
