Shurely not? Instead, keep that xorg-version ENTITY with the accurate
version ('7.7'/&c); and just do a manual-override ('7') in the relevant
page titles/&c; or define a related xorg-version-main ENTITY ('7')
or similar and use that for the/any overrides?

All the xorg apps/packages have different version numbers. AFAICR, Xorg has not released an updated group of packages with a group designation (i.e. 7.7) in over 10 years. I really don't see a need to keep the entity xorg-version at all.

Right now the Xorg into says:

The distribution of Xorg is given a release number by the developers, in this case Xorg-7.7, and is referred to as the "katamari" by the upstream developers.

but I don't think this is true any more.
