Have you tried testing the RAM/setup with memtest86 ?

Unfortunately, testing that much RAM will take a long time - but
problems sometimes show up fairly frequently.  Also check the
timings in the BIOS/EFI (assuming those are available) against what
the RAM claims.

On one old machine of mine (low-end) I get fairly-frequent ICE's
when compiling, in that case I suspect it slightly undervolts the
RAM and there is no option in the BIOS to change that.  But there,
dropping the caches with 'echo 3 >/proc/sys/vm/drop-caches' and
retrying usually lets it compile.
