Hi Desiree,

This is not an answer, but merely a thought. From my understanding, when
you plug a USB headset in, Jaws sees the headset as the default sound card.
Is it possible that the headset taking that little bit of electricity, & the
hub not being plugged in, was just enough to keep the hub from working
properly & not able to get enough power from the computer to run both the
external drive & headset? Or, was what happened just one of those flukey
things that happen?! Hopefully someone will have a more definitive answer.
Take care.
Mike

  Hi,
Well, I plugged the drive into my laptop and it recognized right away.
I formatted it on the laptop and now things seem to be working fine. I
now have both external drives plugged into the back of the computer.
Thank you guys for your help.
Now, I have a related question. The hub does have a power cord, but it
didn't start giving me trouble even when it wasn't plugged into the
wall until today when I tried to plug my headphones into it. I asked
this same question on another list and someone responded back by
saying that plugging an external drive and a pair of headphones into
the same hub is a bad idea. Why would that be? I thought the point of
a hub was so that you could plug multiple devices into it at once and
  not have to worry.
