There is several industries where you can preorder. I am a collecter of
action figures and I have been able to place preorders through say
Amazon to get the figure when it is released. I have also preordered dvd
movies. In all such cases I have gotten the preordered product.
One thing that sets those preorders aside is a solid projection of when
the item is to be released. They say on Amazon that the item will be
released on January 25. Typically, they come out on that date, or at
least in that general time frame.
So preordering itself is not bad. It is more a matter of the trust
between client and company. Weather or not a company is able to meet a
reasonable deadline.
