that some use air pressure with the water. As the reservoir fills it
displaces air under pressure which is captured and released behind the water
to add a sort of jet effect.

Did I dream that up?

No you didn't. Summer before last I stayed in a hotel in Jacksonville that
had a retro fit into an older toilet. The was a clear water mark in the
tank where it used to fill up to. The inserted equipment was a plastic
thing that is like a fat capitol H with a third vertical piece in the
middle. After you flushed it the plastic tank filled compressing the air to
the same pressure as city water. There was no shut-off valve. It just
flowed until it couldn't any more. I assume there was a check valve to keep
water from flowing back out if the utility pressure should drop below what
was in the tank. When it flushed it was like one of those tankless toilets
that you often find in public restrooms. Quite a blast.

Regards.
