Thanks Bob, I'll do that tomorrow.
What I found out so far is that it really depends, and you better be real careful who you deal with. I talked to three firms that supposedly did energy audits and two of them were ready to sell me more insulation without even looking at the property and the third guy told me I probably ought to buy a new furnace. So, I got a hold of the general contractor who did our massive remodeling when we first bought the place and who is honest and does excellent work. He told me that in a home less than thirty years old it probably didn't make a lot of sense to put thermal windows in, but in one as old as ours, where the windows are not at all tight, they probably made sense. He had two prices, one he thinks is $550 a pop, and one at about $440. According to this fellow the $440 one is the way to go since the higher dollar window isn't really all that different, just better known. On a sort of related note, can any of you give me good suggestions or techniques I can use to convince my wife we really have to have a 5KW generator in case we have an ice storm this Winter? So far I've come up with, "The cat will die if we can't stay here, because he can't go to a hotel, even if we could find a room somewhere after an event like that". -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of chiliblindman Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 20:02 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Thermol windows Bill, if you search for window R value or R insulation factor you should come up with something workable. ...................bob [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
