Hi Lenny,
I've wrapped duct tape around hacksaw blades numerous times in the past to do certain cutting jobs. The problem this time is that I'm trying to cut a fairly thin piece off the edge of the sheet of nylon and it has to be fairly exact when finished. There's no way that I could get the accuracy I need cutting the nylon freehand with a primitive tool. It may not come fully away but you can then just run the blade along the holding bit to separate the pieces. I used to have a hooked knife with a carbide tip for scoring laminate which worked well for that sort of thing. You might be able to cut it with a jig saw particularly if you have an orbital variable speed one that you can slow fully down. Heat is your enemy with a power tool. Another possibility might be a sheet metal guillotine. So far I've tried using a 80 tooth circular saw blade and another that has teeth like a hacksaw blade. In both cases, the cut was terrible and there was a lot of melted nylon along the path of the cut. I also tried to cut the sheet with a utility knife but this wasn't very successful either. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to cut nylon? Any help greatly appreciated.
