Bailey,
FWIW, I'm using Redline ATF (pretty much the same thing as Mobile 1 ATF) on
my wife's '98 328i with a 4-speed GM slush box. Change the filter while you
are at it. My 40K mile old filter was nearly clogged, though the lube
looked and smelled clean.
If this is the first time you are changing tranny oil, be prepared to spend
hours scraping the old baked-in gasket from the pan. Also double check on
the exact fluid fill procedure. IIRC, it was something along the lines of:
fill her up, run through gears, get up to certain temp == 30?C, then add
some more fluid.
Otherwise it's all fairly straight forward.

| [UUC] Another E39 ATF Question
|
>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
At 99000 miles my 1997 528iA(with A4S 270R transmission) is about due
for the 100000 mile ATF change(BMW having discovered that
"Lifetime"[EMAIL PROTECTED] miles). I've about decided to let one of the nearby
dealers perform the change; both dealers say that @7 qts. of ATF are
needed to refill transmission. I mentioned that I might want to provide
Mobil 1 ATF(Dexron III) instead of whatever fluid the dealer uses.
Dealer 1 said that was no problem, while Dealer 2 maintained that Mobil
1 was not needed because BMW uses a long life fluid which permits the
100000 mile changes. Now, every BMW chart I've seen indicates that the
GM four speed autoboxes use plain old garden variety Dexron III:
http://bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/Tranny/GM1999Chart.jpg . My question is:
Should I provide the Mobil 1 ATF or will the BMW fluid be just as
good-or better? Thanks for any insight you might have.

Mike,
This would be a major PITA.
Unlike older cars, E36 uses purpose tailored non-modular wiring harness.
All options non installed on your car at the factory will require laying
new wires, reading the electrical diagram and splicing into the harness at
all the right places.
Doable, but really not worth it for a rarely used feature like cruise
control.

I looked at a nice 99 M3 today, and it does not have the trip computer,
cruise control, or power seats. Of the 3. the cruise control is the most
important to me. Can factory cruise control be added? I have added cruise
control on a previous car, so I know aftermarket ones can be added from Jc
Whitney and such.

Must not have been at the Club Race last year where I won one in the
post-race raffle :-)

Very nice. And nicely detailed inside as well.

Martin,
The most basic subwoofer parts are:
Subwooferbox 65 13 8 389 690
Subwooferbox holder 65 12 8 398 541 (qty 2 required)
These are for the "HiFi system." The "Harmon Kardon TopHi-Fi System" uses a
different box and holders, and also has a port pipe. Let me know off-Digest
if you want these P/Ns instead, or if you need a more extensive list.
>> As a Mac guy, I can't run TIS/ETK
I've been running the ETK and TIS on my Mac for several years under Virtual
PC/Win 95 with no problems.

Hello,
car is a 1993 Euro 520i Touring Auto, with the M50TU engine.
Today it left me stranded at my parents in law, when it would start, but
died right away. Keeping the revs up was no problem, even for a couple
of minutes, but when I let go of the throttle it died right away.
On the way over it seemed for a short period as if the throttle was
sticking at 2k revs, but that went away.
Any idea what this might be? I'm thinking idle control unit or valve,
but that's pretty obvious.. Any other ideas?
Thanks a lot,
Hans
