I've been trying to fix a steering shimmy in my 330ti and I need to rule out the wheels as the problem. I've done the usual suspension replacement remedies and had everything balance on a good Hunter. I have a portable jack and impact wrench. I'll come to you and even buy you lunch or a 6-pack. Thanks, Bill Yates [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2004 17:44:33 -0500 (EST) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Speakers and Nak changer f/s Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a couple stereo items from my car that I'd like to sell. 1 pair of MB Quart RSB 215 component speakers. 5 1/4 midwoofs, tweeters and crossovers $75 plus shipping. 1 Nakamichi MB-75 CD changer. Bought on Ebay, but never got around to installing. I've decided that I'm more enamored with the B&B Triflow sound than I am serious high fidelity, so I'm stickiong with the stock headunit. NOTE: display is green, not amber, though I doubt it would be hard to change the LED lighting. - $220 plus shipping. I'll bench test before shipping as well as I literally haven't unpacked it except to confirm it was intact when I got it. Everything in place, including carrying case for removable faceplate, remote...all packaging, and I printed a fresh Nak Manual from the site. With just over 100,000 miles, I removed the original, plastic impeller'd water pump. Car is a 3/95 build date and a 2/95 cast date water pump. Fortunately, the impeller didn't disintegrate, rather the bearings self destructed. The resulting 'eccentric' water pump destroyed the plastic water pump pulley and nothing more. A very thorough block and radiator flush yielded no pieces. Whew! The plastic t'stat housing wasn't cracked, either. The bypass passage seal was weeping, and is likely the cause of the minor coolant loss. A new aluminum housing will be used in it's place, though, just in case. Side note: I inspected both tensioners and found them in good shape (pulleys and action). No replacements necessary. It is interesting to note that the main drive belt tensioner is a typical spring loaded tensioner that likely uses a plastic bushing as a damper, whereas the R/C belt tensioner is hydraulically damped. I'd guess it is to dampen shock loads from the R/C clutch on/off cycling. Maybe not, but I'm sticking with it... I wonder if the pulley failures others have seen are a result of missing dust caps over the bearings that were not replaced when the belts were replaced. Not sure, just an idea. Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. I decided it wasn't worth restoring (mucho rust and holes on the frame) and that I wasn't going to have time to do it for at least two years anyway. Kinda pointless to let it sit and come into disrepair. I posted it to a local E28 list, and a good friend of mine ended up buying it. It was much easier to sell to someone a few hours away than someone a few time zones away. ;-) Next time I come across a Euro 535i and decide to sell it, I'll keep you in mind. :-) Brad --- Michael Lawrence <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Did you post it to the list? This thing would be nice to have in the winter. I tried to go to a local audio shop, but they will not install a remote start unit on a manual transmission because they can be held liable by your insurance if you leave it in gear and the car hits someone or something. If I really want it that bad I either have to do it myself or find someone that will do it on the side, so any info appreciated. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jan 2004 12:07:19 -0500 From: "Rob Levinson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Remote Start for winter Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> There's another issue with modern BMWs... your car has "EWS", the anti-theft system that looks for a coded chip in your key. This helps prevent a thief from jimmying your ignition lock. The work-around that some shops use is to hide a key up in the dashboard under the steering wheel... disables your EWS, and if anyone figured out that's how you worked your remote-start, they could break in and dig the key out of the dash. I'm not saying don't do it - in fact, in this cold weather, I'm really jealous of people that have remote start! - Rob ---- Original Message ---- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [UUC] Remote Start for winter >Has anybody tried to remote start a 96 328is or any other 3series >that has a >manual tranny? Car would function normal in all other aspects except it would not need the chip in the key. Thus, you don't have a key in the dash for a thief to find and it still requires the proper key to turn the ignition. EWS doesn't prevent crooks from hot wiring the car at all now as that wire cutting is well known in the crook community. It might stop a local 12yr old but that is about it.
