Barry,

Meyle HDs are best bang for the buck that I have seen, but 80k out of
stock ones ain't bad at all.

Guys,

It was Rob L who got me on these! Agreed that Meyle has put out some
crap in the past, my current nemesis is Febi-Bilstein (after having to
warranty damn near EVERY E46 Camshaft sensor job I did last year... I
ended up recalling every car we put one in once the failure rate hit 30%!).

Rob.. chime in please! :)

I would strongly advise against urethane in a rear shock mount application.
Of all the aftermarket options, we're seeing virtually all of the urethane
versions fail within a year.

Meyle has been making great strides to change their product line-up. Their
"HD" shock mount is a case-in-point, it's a re-design of the part that has
been proving itself virtually bulletproof. The conical center section
prevents the bushing from pushing through the mounting plate.

In fact, we've been using them on one of our JP racecars now for about two
years, still holding up fine.

I've had a pair of Ground Control RSMs for a couple of years, and its
urethane seems to be doing fine. Nevertheless, the Meyle sounds
interesting because the GCs transmit a bit too much noise. Can the Meyles
be used in an upside down configuration?

Don't know, I haven't tried. As they resemble a standard mount, I can't see
any reason why not.

Rob and Andre,

Got a car coming in next week for RSMs.. I ordered Meyle HDs, he asked
the same thing. I'll try it and report back.

Guy is a bit of a nut job (in a good way) and up for trying new things.

Mine is pre-diluted coolant. Half the coolant with distilled water
for the same price as regular coolant.

Subject: [UUC] AutoCheck VS Carfax - update

I posted a little while back how I had compared some VINs between
AutoCheck and CarFax and found that mostly the same information
existed, but there were missing elements for each. All in all,
AutoCheck seems to be as good or better - and for the same price you
got 60 days of unlimited reports VS 30 days for CarFax.

To update:

I got an AutoCheck account a few weeks ago while looking for a car for
my son. I have used CarFax in the past, but AC offers 60 days rather
than CF's 30 days. Also in the past CF has busted my ba!!s over the
amount of reports run with an "unlimited" 30 day account. I did a
comparison between the two last year and they seemed to have similar
info with the edge going mostly to AC who gave you twice the days for
the same price.

So I order up the "unlimited" 60 plan and start running reports. We
found and purchased a car for my son, but I am sort of looking for a
different car for me now. Imagine my surprise when I get this notice
today:

"Our records show that you have accessed 25 reports or more in less
than 60 days with an AutoCheck Unlimited or AutoCheck + TitleGuard
consumer account. The AutoCheck consumer terms and conditions state,
in relevant part:

AutoCheck Vehicle History Reports ("Reports") purchased on the
AutoCheck consumer site (www.AutoCheck.com), either directly or
through affiliates, are intended for personal use only, and not for
commercial use. "Commercial use" is defined as use by persons engaged
in the business of buying and/or selling of automobiles, the resale or
redistribution of the Reports, or any other business purpose. Without
limiting the foregoing definition, personal use of the service is
defined to not ordinarily exceed 25 Reports during any 60-day period
from the date of purchase. ANY COMMERCIAL USE OF THE AutoCheck VEHICLE
HISTORY REPORTS PURCHASED ON THE AutoCheck CONSUMER SITE IS STRICTLY
PROHIBITED AND ANY SUSPECTED COMMERCIAL USE WILL LEAD TO THE
DEACTIVATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT AND MAY RESULT IN LEGAL PROSECUTION. WE
RESERVE THE RIGHT TO IMPOSE, AND YOU AGREE TO PAY TO EXPERIAN, AN
ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF $19.99 FOR EACH AutoCheck VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT
THAT EXPERIAN DEEMS WAS ACCESSED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES. COMMERCIAL
USERS OF THE AutoCheck CONSUMER SITE AND THEIR TRANSFEREES ARE NOT
ELIGIBLE FOR AND WILL NOT BE COVERED BY AutoCheck BUYBACK PROTECTION.
AutoCheck offers a commercial service at www.AutoCheckmembers.com.

NOTICE for Consumers: You will not be eligible for, nor covered by,
AutoCheck Buyback Protection if you obtained a Report from a dealer
who obtained it from the AutoCheck consumer Web site. "

I then had to enter my phone number and "swear" that I am using this
for myself and not for commercial purposes.

What a crock! They are as busting as CF is with their "unlimited"
plan. It is like being asked to leave the "all you can eat" buffer
because you ate too much :-) . They never once mentioned that
"unlimited" equals 25 on the web page when I was signing up and they
were taking my money.

After I put in my number and swore I was doing personal stuff, it
seems to let me go on and run reports. But I assume at some point I
may get a call and/or get another complaint online that I run too many
reports - or they may just cut me off.

So I guess buyer beware no matter which service you use.

Remember, nothing is better than a hands on inspection of a used car
by someone who knows what they are doing. Just use a check service
like these to weed out the bad cars and help decide which one(s) to
inspect.

I use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner all the time, and it has
never harmed clearcoat or paint. Best thing ever for removing
stickers and adhesives. Dunno about Cosmoline. It's bad for some
plastics but OK for most.

My E36 with power sport seats has these high tension spring tensioners
for the front seat belts.

I have replaced them in the past because of hall effect sensor issues
and now its time to remove the seats for recovering and I need to remove
them again.

I can't tell from the TIS what color the indicator needs to be for them
to be removed and what color it should be when they are installed.

Is it green and they work or green and they are safe to remove?

Ed

I wonder if they give you a hard time if you check for the same model
of car. I got an autocheck account but almost every car I've run has
been some variation of E36. I'm on number 23, so I'm sure I'll get
to deal with that issue soon enough. By the way, if anyone knows of
a good condition E36 318i sedan, I have about $3500 to spend. I've
posted an ad in Craigslist with my criteria for those interested.

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/345736941.html

I thought I had found the perfect candidate, but the pre-purchase
inspection at Valley Motorwerks (http://www.vmwerks.com/) discovered
so many problems that I had to continue looking. This has been a
very difficult search.
