Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Greetings all,

I purchased an opener for my wife's 1994 325is a couple of weeks ago. The
opener is from Stellar (Bav Auto) and is just the basic model, no remote start
or alarm... just the remote opener. It installed fine but would not activate
the locks. The parking lights flash, indicating at least some power is getting
to the unit. The troubleshooting guide indicates there might be a fuse
missing, but I can't locate this mystery fuse anywhere.

I installed a similar (identical) unit in my daughter's 1995 318i and it worked
fine. Any suggestions on where the fuse might be?

Thanks....

Kevin, I had that happen with one rear caliper on our '91 E30 318is.
I removed the caliper and fluid came out of the line, so I replaced
the caliper (got a used one for free). Try removing a caliper and see
what happens. I think with time gunk gets inside the caliper, so
you'd have to rebuild it or replace it.

ha ha ha! A Harbor Freight store recently opened up here in Kalamazoo.

I bought a HF set of lug nut sockets years ago, they have a plastic cover
over the outside of the socket, and they are color coded by size. I've used
the 17mm and 19mm for years on my BMW's, they have always performed well,
and the only complaint is they are hard to remove from my air or electric
wrench. I usually take a screwdriver to pop them off. Recently I bought a
set of HF drain plug sockets, only about $5 and they have already paid for
themselves. Do I depend on HF tools for critical applications? Not
usually, but they work well in many instances and if they break after 4-5
uses, they've still paid for themselves. A lot of their stuff is junk, but
I'm surprised at the strength of many of their tools.

My daughter needs to have work done on her car. Front bumper cover ,
driver's fender , driver's headlight, and slight ding on the hood. The
other insurance company is taking the liability for the accident.
She's got an estimate from one of their shops, but I'm not pleased with
their intent to "bondo" the fender rather than get a new one. If I call
Honda, a new factor bumper is less than their estimate of 4 hours of labor
to "fix" it. And if I factor in a 40% gross margin, it's only $80 higher.
Can this be argued with the at fault insurance company?
They are also quoting a reconditioned headlight, what ever that is.

Of course. Everything is negotiable. They have an obligation to "make you
whole".
