Hello All,

I've just had a new issue pop up with the wife's '03 325xi (E46)
The right-rear tail-light cluster shorts out for a day or two and then starts
working... This is brake light, turn signal, and tail lamp.

Knowing that Bavarian Elves have not sneaked into the garage last night to fix
this, does the list have a starting point to go searching for this short?

Fuse box?
known wear area that grounds wires?
lose connector somewhere?

TIA!

It doesn't "short out" and then start working, because that would blow
fuses. It sounds like the ground "opens" and then makes contact again.
Those three lights are on different circuits because they are powered
for different reasons and at different times, so you are looking for
something common to the three lights and yet no common to the left side.

I'd look for the ground attachment for that corner of the car and start
there.

For 1st and all the other Schadenfreudists out there...an abridged
version of the M42 cracked head story.

June 06, took home a $1k stray car from a friend who had not maintained
it in, shall we say, 'peak condition'. Redid the center driveshaft
bearing and guibo. slapped in cheapo tokicos, new control arms +
powerflex bushes, shock tower bearings from the M3 rebuild, tie rods,
sway bar bushes, new driver's door, etc etc etc...all with the intent of
selling it for a couple dollars. But, lo and behold I was smitten.
Decided to sell the 87 325iC (the reliable e30) and turn the cute little
D-schwartz 318is into the winter beater/daily driver/driver's school
car...which of course meant bilsteins and light wheels. Good plan, right?

FF to March 07. One of numerous spring sleet storms in DC. Driving under
the Capital building (3rd St tunnel for those in the know) about 2 miles
from home, traffic backed up in the tunnel (as usual), noticed the temp
gauge going up, turned the heat all the way up...no heat...damn. 15
minutes of traffic later, the POS radiator explodes in the gas station
lot. Nice. Towed home. Replaced the entire cooling system (hoses/belts
and thermostat were already new). Suspected cheapo autozone thermostat
was stuck. Put a real 88 deg one back in there and a new pump (who knew
it was the 'improved' e36 style water pump?). Losing coolant on the
drivers side floor (drip drip drip). Went in there (what a mess). Core
was OK. 3 O-rings later, drip stops...still losing coolant, started
noticing white vapor in the exhaust...blown head/profile gasket, right?
Well, yeah, they were bad, but as my machinist (Springfield Custom Auto
Machine...cool shop) confirmed, damage had been done.

Now, the e30 M3 motor refresh...need rod bearings. Not in pieces, but
well worn. Have not driven it since last Fall. Might as well build up
that reconditioned s14 head that's been sitting in the garage for a
year, throw in Mario's cat/center pipe, and get 225 out of that little
lump, right? OK, sounds good, but finish the 318is first, then do the M3
right...grrrr.

Guess what, the M3's going in to a shop in VA I've heard good things
about (RoadRaceTechnologies) next week and the 318is might get parted
out to ebay in my present state of mind...

So there you have it...thankfully the e36 M3 has been bulletproof...but
there's that beautiful SS Supersprint DTM pipe to put on there....dare I
touch the car?

cheers!

Ouch! Overheat + cold air from heater = turn off engine now

All -

I have 3 sets of Euro Headers available. These are from E36 Euro motors, and
fit on all M50/M52 variant engines. 2.5l, 2.8l 3.0l and 3.2l US engines.
They will fit in US E36 chassis as well as M50 conversion E30 cars.

Good Sets # 1 and 2:
These are in excellent condition, ready to bolt on and go.
Stock $899
Ceramic Coated $1099 (I use the same company that coats all the Kromer Kraft
parts)

Rough Set #3:
These are in OK condition. They have a few dents on the long section and a
partial tear in the short section flex. Nothing major, but will need some
heat and tack welding. Some work and these will be back to excellent
condition. (From 12 inches you would never know they were not perfect)
As Is $599
