Started acting flakey about an week ago, intermittently dying and then springing back to life a second later. A few days ago it went to 'pppppp', with the speedo only working, but reading very high. >From what I gather I need to replace the entire unit, unless someone here has a better suggestion for a fix. I am also curious as to what mileage the car will show, from teh various innernets sources that it could be the mileage of the donor cluster or the coding plug, which ever is higher, and that they can't be set to what I calculate the mileage as when it died. Donor (used) cluster will show it's mileage, but with a tamper dot illuminated. New, off the shelf, cluster will show zero miles and will require a coding plug and adapter harness. I had new tires installed recently and it did not change anything. Therefore I do not feel that it's related to wheel/tire balance. I had driveshaft replaced now and it cured vibration on acceleration and driveline "clunk" that I had. Vibration is still there. What could be the reason for vibration at 75mph? Any ideas? I only think about front wheel bearings. How do I check them? And there is none when I drive speed limit :( Doesn't make sence to me. I had set of winter tires on - no vibration. Replaced for summer (2006) - drove for a while and vibration came. I thought it's wheels as tires were pretty worn out. Then I switched for winter - and shimmy were present! Now, I took those summer wheels and put new tires on them. Shimmy still there. Isn't that a good proof that wheels is not a problem? ----- Original Message ---- From: Mdgreer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, May 8, 2007 10:32:19 AM Subject: RE: [UUC] 97 540 6-spd vibration at 75mph Does the vibration get increasingly worse at higher speeds, or does it subside? If it gets better at higher speeds it may still be tires or wheels. --- On Tue 05/08, Ivan Demkovitch < [EMAIL PROTECTED] > wrote: From: Ivan Demkovitch [mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Date: Tue, 8 May 2007 08:01:25 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [UUC] 97 540 6-spd vibration at 75mph Car has 171k, I had all front suspension redone around 135k<br>Slight vibration present on my winter wheels and summer set. A driveshaft vibration is 3+ x higher frequency than a tire vibration. Both your wheels and tires can be out of round/balance. Gary Derian > No, vibration disappears at higher speed.
