The car had a trans fluid service at 98k, has 146k miles now. I was just preparing to do another trans fluid service. Any ideas what might be the problem? Also when having the fluid changed is it best to bring it in to a mechanic and have them use an extractor to get all the fluid out? Assuming I bring them the proper fluid can they also swap the normal americano crap out of the extractor, and add the correct new fluid? I've seen issues with the throttle motor on these cars. Time for it to go get some electronic diagnosis done. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Karl, My better half's 01 540 6spd was doing some weird things when coming to a stop. Put the clutch in as you're stopping and the car would just die. No shudder, it was actually kind of weird since you really wouldn't notice it until you went to drive off and the car wouldn't go. At first I thought she was just nuts until it did it to me a few times in one day. So I drove the car for a week and watched the tach when coming to a stop. Sometimes I would see the rpm drop to about 200rpm then jump up to 1000 or so. Other times it would just die. Others it would be fine. First thing I did was clean the MAF with CRC maf cleaner. A small improvement but it would still do it a few times a day. I then thought it was the ICV but Brett told me the car doesn't have one. So instead of dropping change on a new tb or maf I decided to take a look at the TB. I was pretty amazed to see how gunked up it was. Nice ridge of sludge/grime right at the butterfly area. So I removed the TB and cleaned it really well and so far one month later no bizarre stalls. While I was "in there" I changed all the plugs. So besides no more stalls the average fuel consumption has gone up about 1mpg. So who knows maybe similar problem. Btw - 80k miles on the car. BMW solution is software flash and replace with same failure prone remfg. dual vanos unit. Beisan sells replacement of the buna(?) OEM seals with viton for longer wear / life. Much research done by him for product development. My 2000 528itM does the same when cold ... doesn't stall yet and I have the seals for ~$60. Will be diy-ing the R&R soon. Also look at www.Drvanos.com for a more expensive fix that includes better seals and machining / poishing of vanos intake / exhaust cylinders, etc...
