I don't even thing "don't mess with my preferences" opinion is dominant. What 
I've read what mostly "Yea, this style is good, but here's a small nit". 
Overall, people like the look.

And then, the decision about specific nits should not be made by simple vote. 
Like in writing, in design the author should retain some control, lest the 
result will be incoherent.

I think it makes sense to listen to some suggestions. In particular the quote 
from pantone color guide (IIRC the name) is very interesting. But overall, I 
think Eric and Joel should decide which changes to made and which not.
