Based on the discussion on the developers list, what people want is black-on-white, default font, default colors, default links, default everything. Zzzzzzzz.... Oops, sorry I dozed off for a minute there. ;-) It's rather hard for me to be excited by the cascading lack-of-style sheet people seem to be clamoring for. Unless anybody has another idea, I plan to just let the matter rest.
I would not get discouraged so easily... I only counted a minority in the "don't mess with my preferences" camp. I agree with Joel's assessment of the situation. And if people really dislike what they see they do have the choice. They can select that single checkbox in their browser settings to ignore the styles we suggest.
