Typewriter fonts don't scale well w.r.t. others. They tend to be too thin. Try viewing pages at larger point sizes. That said, I'm not sure I know what's better. I like Lucida Console for my work, but I don't use it by default in my web browser for some reason.
Courier is not my favorite font. Lucida Console looks good, but I'm not sure either.
