Sharondha, The serial port on your unit must be a male plug, and the other end must be male as well. The port that is female on the PC end, but it has same appearance as serial port, is the VGA monitor port. The serial cable that came with your unit is a female cable, where it has female plugs on both ends. Somebody also mentioned a USB to RS232 (serial) adapter a few days ago (I've forgot about it).
