Sharondha, A male plug is the socket with pins, where as a female plug is the socket with holes. If we assume that you have one VGA (a female socket that looks like a serial port), a parallel port (the famous port), and the regular serial port (male socket), then you might want to connect the serial cable that came with your unit into the male socket, and connect the other end to the serial port on your unit.
