Hi, the straps are there when you open the case to use the machine. If it was one long piece you wouldn't be able to reach the ports.
Since your machine is only new I would suggest it is the newer case so doesn't have the problems that have been reported. Someone said that they had heard of the neck strape breaking. Well I haven't heard that mentioned on the list at all so I'm guessing nobody here has had that problem. Hope this helps, >From Shaz.
