I used to use the little water softener on the line. It worked OK, but I
plumbed it in, and use a prefilter for rust particles, and a good filter,
inline. I don't use a softener;my city water is between 2 to 3 grains for
hardness, which I believe is medium low. When you get your TDS meter, it will
tell you what you want to know. Too little minerals is supposed to affect
taste, and can keep your boiler refill from operating. I can't remenber what
are good levels - I think somewhere between 50-150 ppm minerals. - Dennis

Thanks. I will get a digital TDS in about two days....

As I said I am using 1/2 britta pitcher water ( pre carbon prefiltered/
refrigerator) and 1/2 distilled water. I hope that I can go 40% Britta
and 60% distilled.
I am also using the inline tank softener that came with the machine.
Do you use yours? Well, in case you have one with a vibe pump/
I wonder if the inline filer makes the pump work harder.....

What is the more appropiate hardness to pospone a descalling service?
