Surely you realize that you are comparing apples and oranges, right?   Right?

Try comparing the price of your 1996 PC in 1993 and 2000.
 
I actually know the person who's *job* it is to measure the change in
prices for computers.    Every couple years we have to completely re-base
the index because the prices for computers have dropped so fast that the
index starts to get into very tiny numbers.
