That's a true statement, and I think that humility and understanding of our
imperfections will stand us in good stead in dealing with other people in
the world. However, I think that part of the humility is acknowledging that
sometimes there are situations where we cannot stop violence by being a
better nation.
There defiantly can be reconciliation with different peoples in the world.
But, sometimes, there are individuals, groups or governments with whom
reconciliation is not possible. It is still worthwhile to try for
reconciliation with the people of a nation, even if one is compelled to
remove the government, but I don't think we have enough control to be
reconciled with everyone.
In a sense, I speak from personal experience. I think we will never be
reconciled with Teri's dad, after his abuse of her as a child. We are
willing to forgive, but he will not accept forgiveness or repent.
