I don't really see how these two statements can co-exist.  If the
sport structure is unique, then what're you using to decide what's
acceptable and what's not?
How about every team just turns up at the venue on Saturday prepared
to play at 9am, collects the schedule from the HQ desk, then either
warms up to play their 9am game, or sets up camp until they're
scheduled to play?   That would be feasible, so surely that means it's
acceptable...

Getting the schedule out early is always the intention, and it'd be
great to have tons of pitches to play with of course.
