I'm fairly sure that a few years ago a very experienced and excellent
fox of a TD suggested to the UKU that he run the tour for a season.
They weren't interested.  That could have been because some of them
UKU also ran profit-making tournies back then - so the idea might hold
some water now.

Being local to the venue is not a necessary.  Sweeks has run
successful tournies in Bakewell, while residing in London (albeit
after spending time sorting it out the first time).  He's not the
first - I'm sure Retter's run tournies from a distance in the past
too.

Interesting that no matter how poor tournaments are, we'll still go
back next year there if aren't any competing bids.  Perhaps the UKU
should simply lower the maximum allowed fee to 100 quid.  At least
then we'll all feel like we got value for money at badly run events.
