Theresa, these are my notes for a fresh install of Ubuntu that I
wrote up when I installed for a friend, should be most everything
you'll need too.  Btw, the list is unedited, some will apply and
some won't.  HTH.

P.S. the restricted-extras includes Flash, Java, etc.

Steps
1.  Install Kubuntu
2.  Update and Upgrade
3.  Install Firefox

4.  Install:
    vlc
    mozilla-plugin-vlc

5.  Install:
    gimp
    gimp-print
    gimp-python
    gimp-dcraw
    gimp-data-extras
    pandora

6.  Install: 
    inkscape
    create-resources
    libwmf-bin
    imagemagick
    perlmagick
    python-numpy

7.  Install:
    kubuntu-restricted-extras
    kdenlive
    scribus
    icc-profiles

8.  CUPS Printer setup
    http://127.0.0.1:631
    printer driver: Brother HL-1250 Foomatic/hl1250 (recommended)
    device uri: ipp://192.168.0.100

To Do:
configure openoffice to save as .doc .xls automatically
install zotero plugin to openoffice
