It is extremely easy to build a live DVD image with the full
"redistributable" package set using the Distribution Constructor. I've
attached a manifest that does exactly that. However, the resulting
image won't install until it's based on at least build 121 (coming soon)
due to a bug in the lofi driver that was just fixed.

Building an image that allows package selection and installation with
reasonable performance, on the other hand, is really not feasible at
present, as the other respondents have indicated.

Actually, if you use the live CD for Fedora, the experience is similar
ot OpenSolaris. Same for Ubuntu, whether desktop or server. The
install DVD used by Fedora and RHEL are as you describe.

Thanks for the input. So far we expect that most such customers will
deploy using automated installation from network repositories, not
CD/DVD. Thus we've spent more emphasis there and provided the
Distribution Constructor for those like you to build more custom images.
We'll be working on getting more information out on how to use
Automated Installation and Distribution Constructor for these types of
scenarios.
