Andrew,
I reviewed v2 of the design document. Here are my
comments:
General Questions:
By combining the AI and the text install image, the size
of the image for the AI users would be greater than it is
today (by ~150Mb). How much of a performance impact does this
have on AI client boot?
What commands will I use to set up either an AI or a text-install
service on the server? Would there be a way to setup the service
such that it offers *only* AI or text-install but not both?
--
Page 3: Nit: The Client section mentions the net-fs-root
service. net-fs-root is actually the start method for the
filesystem/root:net service.
Page 3: "Since both AI and the text installer are SMF scripts
we can use svcadm to switch them on and off."
I think what you mean here is that even if AI is selected
as part of the boot process, it would be easy to switch over
to the text installer instead. Just disable AI and enable
text-install.
Question 1: Have you verified that this will actually work?
text-install gets invoked out of system/install-setup and in
that environment, console-login is disabled at media construction
time. Due to that, I am unsure how switching between AI and
text-install would work.
Question 2: Would the AI service discovery parameters be
provided to the client as part of boot by default?
Alok
