This is all very helpful. Owatrol sounds like wonderful stuff, and I shall get some straight away. It will be going in the front lockers too where I also have rust issues. In fact it seems to have so many uses I'm surprised you can't put it on your cornflakes.
I have roofing felt aplenty (from roofing the garden shed). Is Comastic essentially the same gloopy stuff as Intertuf but a different manufacturer? I already have some of that. The key question is still whether I can reach far enough to at least get rid of enough rust to provide some degree of stable surface for paint, but I suspect there's no easy answer to that! -- Nigel Stanley
