Dear Doctor Antas,
Because I am an obstetrician and gynecologist I would prefer to use the word baby. Yes it is the baby of the whole group. Which we all will help to nourish and develop with the hope that it will be a great man, the MAN. I think we as doctors, should be thankful to all these generous people who devote their very valuable time and energy to be helpful in our common goal of caring and healing all of the humanity in a better way.
I am an amateur programmer and my linux knowledge is limited. But I know that care 2x is an apen source free software. I did not have time to eveluate its hundreds of pages code but I know that when I download the last version and examine the source I and any other guy can change and develop it acording to the need. This is why I joined this community and I started to translate care 2x into Turkish. And yes Me too, I am very proud of this job and beeing the member of this community. .
Linux comes from Linus, Mr Tornvald's given name. And all Mandrake, Red Hat, Debian, Knoppix, SuSe, Gelecek, Slackware are Linux.
Elpidio did not give his name or surname to his program. He gave the name Care 2X. As I am new I do not know the story of this name. But its association in may mind in the first glance "cares twice" or care of third millenium which was stated some 30 years ago health for everyone by the year 2000

And what if Elpidio dies in a car accident? (God forbids that!)
How long would it take to one or more of the senior developers to fully
understand the code or, at least, grab the concepts and ideas behind it?
6 hours, 6 days, 6 months, 6 years?
And what about the project's supporting structure, sites, data
repositories, new patches, new code, etc?
Would that project, if quickly mended over a knee, ever be the same?
During that time who would be here to support those who risked money and
reputation in their current real implementations in hospitals?
A project t o support real time applications, that interact and
potentially interfere with the human health, shouldn't in any case
depend on a single individual.
Should it be studied by medical students? Sure.
Deployed in veterinary clinics? Well, why not?
Tested in human healthcare facilities? Sure. In fact I will be doing
just that.
Is Care2x ready for real life Hospital Information System support? Not yet.
There is no progress without risk. By definition, to risk is to ignore
other people opinions. The story of science progress is full of people
who risked.
To say that Care2x *in its actual state* is a toy is only plain common
sense and should not be offensive to anyone.
But I guess that one could be tempted into agreeing with Elpidio about
the need of those guinea pigs to test care2x in real life.
Now, I wonder, who is insulting who?
Best regards,
J. Antas
