I think you should look at your assumptions again, Phil.

Most girls and young women who find themselves in this situation are neither stupid nor naive, but do not know that they have any options.

Few women in these situations have a clinic to go to. Or health insurance to go with. Or a doctor to talk to about it. Or transportation to get there.

Few health clinics will talk about the options. And less and less every month. Fewer still will perform abortions. The latest stats I had showed that the average commute to get an abortion was 37 miles. And if you are in a US funded clinic outside the US, you can't talk abortion or anything like it at all due to Bush's "Gag Order".

These young women make their decisions based on hearsay and the advice of their peers (who do not know much more). And by the time they figure out what to do, they only have two options (abortion or birth).

The main problem is education, or lack thereof.

The "powers that be" in our nation (US) have decided that sex education is wrong, and have done everything they can do to forbid it.
They have delayed availability of the RU486 pill, and are working hard to keep it out of use altogether.

So I can't condemn them for not knowing what all their available options are the "morning after".
