This is a tough topic for me, because as feminist, I feel I should be
totally pro-choice, yet as a woman who struggled through 5 miscarriages
before being able to successfully have a child, I cringe at the thought of
abortion.  Especially late term abortion.

Abortion is never going to go away.  Women have always had them, and always
will.  Making them illegal is only going to push them into the back rooms
and alleys, and we'll see a tremendous increase in women dying from botched
abortions. Also, we'll have a huge strain on the prison system from the
number of women  who are prosecuted for having abortions.

I think that a massive educational campaign is needed to teach women all
the options to pregnancy and all the options to abortion.  I think it needs
to start very early, perhaps even in elementary school, and be taught to
both sexes with an emphasis on abstinence.

But since even education is not going to stop people from having sex, I
think birth control should be cheap or free, and readily available.

I think that adoption centers should have outreach campaigns to both
pregnant women and potential parents to let everyone know that options
exist, and that any family that wants to adopt but cannot afford the legal
costs, should receive some form of assistance, either from the government
or from private groups in support of adoption.

I think anti abortion advocates would have much more success if they used
education instead of hate and fear.   I think a photo of a mother with a
smiling child is a more effective pro life tool than a photo of a bleeding
fetus.

I think that abortion should never be used only as an after thought for
someone too lazy to use birth control.

If all of these things could be put in place, then I would say that
medically necessary abortions should be between a woman and her
doctor.  But I strongly feel that 3rd term abortion should only be done as
an absolute medical necessity when the mother's life is danger.
