In Minnesota the state got in bed with an HMO and successfully sued the tobacco companies for 6 billion or so. The attorneys immediately got 400 million. The head of the law firm(Cirisi) immediately took some of the money and ran for US Senate as a Democrat of course. He lost to another wealthy Democrat. The state has yet to see all of it's share and has squandered what it has gotten on a silly anti tobacco ad campaign. The price of cigarettes went up to cover the lawsuit, so in the end it was essentially a regressive tax on the poor to pay for big money Democrat squandering. A corrupt and pathetic situation at best.
