No..I totally disagree.

People knew that smoking could possibly harm them, but that does NOT change
the actions of the Cigarrette companies..does it?

If you know that there are bandits on a particular street...and you go
walking on that street and get robbed..who's to blame?
You for walking on the street? I don't think so.
Especially if the street is advertised as the happening place to be, the
place that will get you girls/men, riches and nice big yachts...or worse
yet...
a street that always has freshly baked muffins and .....
yummmmm
