Actually, the Steam Installer has all the info: It says to take advantage of Steam, your Valve games and any mods on your drive will be converted to Steam Format.
After this conversion process in order to play steam games, your computer will need to be connected to the internet. If you do not have an internet connection, press cancel to abort this install.
