Well - that's what you get for waiting. ;^)
The game itself has been downloading for several months now (it is, after all,
over 2.5 gig). So if you've had Steam for a while the whole game will have
been downloaded long ago.
For me it took about 5 minutes to unpack ("authenticate") the files and then I
could play. Oh, in my case, I could think about playing for three minutes then
swear as I got up to leave for work (what genuis decided to release the damn
thing on a Tuesday?)
Also note that there is a "backup" option for Steam games - if you're
connection is slow or flaky then I recommend you save that puppy. ;^)
