Yes, sitting against a wall is really bad for the knees. But I only
did it in few times pre-season to jump-start my training.
A skier can easily spend 20 mins nonstop in this position. In the
beginning of the season I would always have to stop from the burn.
Towards the middle of the season there was no burn and no stopping.

So unless the gym is in the building and they didn't take a shower I'm
going to guess they don't feel the burn so why complain about it?
