I wholeheartedly agree with Tyler and Vivec.

Something to keep in mind with the upcoming PPC to x86 transition is that
while Apple has claimed that current software will continue to work, that is
an old ruse that they've pulled many times before. They did it with the 68k
series processors to the PowerPC, they did it with OS 9 to OS X, and they're
doing it now. Technically they were telling the truth but in all
practicality people still ended up needing to upgrade all their software to
really make use of the new platform.

If you are interested in getting your feet wet with the Mac, and you already
have a nice monitor and a USB keyboard and mouse, I'd recommend trying the
Mac Mini and putting it on a KVM so that you can easily switch between PC
and Mac. I do that now at work (though with an older Mac) and it works quite
nicely. Admittedly the Mini isn't a G5, but a maxed out Mini (1.42GHz G4,
1GB RAM, 100GB drive) at $900 is 40% of the cost of the system you've
spec'd.
