Yeah I know that is what a lot do now, but that wasn't what we did. I
knew my letters and numbers well before I got to kindergarten.

We did Basic English including sentence diagramming, and math word
problems. By first grade we were reading short stories and simple novels
and were doing multiplication and simple division.
