I'm sorry, that was a typo, it was supposed to be $3.00 a gallon.

I made up some fancy charts and stuff, and we got to the point where we
would have actually sold the vehicle before the costs would have evened
out.

Factor in the loan and the interest, taxes, and such, we just showed us
that hybrids just aren't ready for the mass market yet. Next car we buy
probably will be a hybrid, by that point there will be more produced and
the dealers will have more than one or two on the lots.

After you add up the total cost difference, at $2.00 a gallon for gas it
would have taken us like 7 years to break even. And that doesn't include
higher costs for servicing and part replacement.

I had a similar calculation between a new Corolla and the Prius, but the
gas is $2.80 here in California, and do you think the price of gas will
do much but go UP during the next 7 years?  Made the difference
considerable smaller for me.
