Ray you were more honest than most and probably far more honest than the
dealership you dealt with.   Your honesty probably netted you less $$ on
your trade in, yet if there was no problem they wouldn't have called you
back and said hey your car didn't have any problems and we got more for
it than we expected so here's a couple of hundred bucks. 


It's not bad luck for them, it's the nature of the beast.  People trade
in their cars because its time for things to start going wrong and they
don't want to deal with it.  Dealers know this and take that into
consideration when establishing the value of your trade in.  

I've several friends in the used auto business, I am sure they will get
a good laugh out of the fact the dealer called you about your tranny
going out.  

If even consider giving them any kind of a refund on the car I fly out
and smack you in the back head. And you can forget getting anything off
of the Amazon wish list.
