That statement is fairly ironic. I've spoken with many German and Italians regarding WWII leaders who all told me that the climate in their countries prior to fascists was very similar to what they see in the US and nobody they knew thought any of it was fascist. Nor that they were heading in that direction. The point, that I guess you're not getting, is that when an elected leader takes active steps to dismantle a system set up to prevent dictators and fascism, as Bush has done and is actively doing, well .... that's not a tribute to democracy. When our elected President claims that his powers supersede law, that his actions don't need to be checked by the other 2 branches of government, and that part of his power is derived via a legislative branch despite the fact that only 30% of Americans seem to agree with him, well that's not the will of the people. If you think that's not worthy of discourse then you are swimming in a sea of denial that you won't realize until it drowns you. That having been said, Mr. Bush isn't a Fascist nor will we likely have to tolerate his abuses of power much longer due to the strength of our system, but that's not thanks to him it's thanks to people like me who realized the danger of the path he's down and put the system there in first place to protect just such a guy as Mr. Bush from himself.
