Couple of things to think about on this issue:
1. He's 16, not 6.
2. He's already gone through one round of chemo and has had a relapse.
3. According to the interviews he feels that another round of chemo is
going to "kill him".
4. From what I can read (my opinion here) his decision is not a
religous-based one.
5. The method that they are trying to use is called the "Hoxsey" method.

This case is different from the Schiavo case on a number of points.
The case was brought up by a Virginia Social Services worker (probably
contacted by his doctor) instead of the parents (which was the case in
Schiavo's situation). The patient in this case has verbalized his
desires and his family agrees with him on them. In the Schiavo case
this was one of the debated points. This is a case of the State
(social services) working to override the desires of the patient and
his family as opposed to the family (parents) working to override the
decision of the guardian (spouse).
