My point being that some people do indeed attach life to the embryo. Religious or not, there are people who think this is or was a living being. Therefore, preventing the benefit of the research may prevent other evils - like fetus farming. Imagine women getting pregnant only to abort their fetus to sell the stem cells. These kinds of things are going to happen, Bush veto or not.
To address your concerns, I may be one of the people who thinks getting old and dying is just another part of life. I think our culture's emphasis on immortality is a fault. None of the above should be used to determine my opinion on the matter.
